ABOUT ABOUT

Come enjoy a casual happy hour with former classmates, instructors, staff and current students at the ground floor Irving Street Studio at Ecotrust!

5:30 - 6:30pm Negotiating Your Career Workshop, led by Professor Melanie Billing-Yun

As business women and men aim to advance their careers into the C-suite and Boardroom, perhaps the most critical skill they need is the ability to successfully negotiate. Far more than merely making deals, negotiation is the art of influencing others, of keeping disparate people aligned, resolving conflict amicably, and achieving collaborative goals. Indeed, those who approach it as an isolated transaction, focused only on achieving their immediate aims, will find their victory does not translate into long-term success.

Dr. Melanie Billings-Yun, author of Beyond Dealmaking: Five Steps to Negotiating Profitable Relationships, will introduce her critically acclaimed GRASP negotiation method, developed from two decades of negotiating in Asia and around the world. She will show how the most effective negotiation isn’t about trickery or brute force, but rather about preparation, empathy, listening, legitimacy, and understanding value--beginning with your own.

6:30 - 8:00 pm Connect to Community starts at 6:30 pm with complimentary appetizers and a cash/debit bar available. Business casual attire is appropriate.

Accessibility: Our space is on the ground floor. The most accessible option for entering the Ecotrust building is through the 10th Avenue doors. There are 2 ADA parking spots and a ramp leading from the parking lot to these doors. There will be a choice of both standing or sitting at the event.

The Irving Street Studio may also be entered through the arched doorway on the Irving Street side of the building, which includes steps up.

Parking: On-street parking is available in the area. The nearby Station Place parking garage at 1025 NW Station Way offers affordable long-term parking options. There is a parking lot available on site with 36 spots that fill quickly and are strictly monitored by parking enforcement with a 2-hour limit.

Mass transit: Trimet green & yellow lines stop nearby. More options here: https://ecotrust.org/join-us/visit-us/
