ABOUT ABOUT

The Carson apartments are located in northwest Portland’s Slabtown neighborhood, the latest phase of redevelopment in the Con-Way Masterplan area.  A former industrial area occupied by the trucking logistics company, XPO (formerly Con-way), the Slabtown neighborhood is evolving through thoughtful, contextual redevelopment that reflects the area’s historic character.  The Carson’s name is a nod to well-known Portlander, JC Carson, an innovator who maintained the Carson Mill during the steam era of the late 1800s.  Carson helped transform Portland from a backwater to a primary west coast city by creating the region’s first steam-powered lumber and planing mill.

The Carson occupies two blocks and recreates an urban block layout in a former parking area.  The Carson incudes multiple buildings ranging from three to fourteen stories and will include luxury 385 units and almost 20,000 SF of ground floor retail.  As one of the tallest buildings in the area, the fourteen-story building offers unsurpassed views of Northwest Portland, the Willamette River, and Forest Park.  An underground parking garage spans both blocks, and there will be 553 bicycle parking spaces.  The Carson includes a landscapes forecourt, sky garden, and private courtyard, and the project is seeking LEED certification.  The Carson will open in the summer of 2018.

The Carson is a Cairn Pacific LLC project, with GBD Architects, Jones Architecture, Andersen Construction, and JBA LLC construction management.  Along with the Slabtown Marketplace, Leland James office reinvention, and LL Hawkins apartments, Cairn Pacific is uniting old with new to create Portland’s newest neighborhood.
