MRED student Christine Pellissier of the Zidell Companies has graciously offered to host PSU MRED students for a barge tour.
On this tour, Zidell will share their history, barge-building business, as well as their plans for redevelopment of Portland's South Waterfront. The tour will end with a walk around the barge yard where MREDs will learn about everything from design to construction to launch of these massive barges, including observation of the 2nd biggest barge that Zidell has ever made...it's a double hull, ocean, going, oil tank barge with a capacity to hold 80,000 barrels of product, with dimensions of 422' long x 76'8 wide x 27' tall! The tour will take approximately an hour, and anyone wanting to head out for happy hour afterwards is welcome to do so!
We're only inviting MRED students (both new and old), so this will be a great chance to meet the incoming MRED class of students before sitting in class together (please no outside guests, as we are limited to a group of 25).
Parking: parking is available at Zidell's parking lot in front of the building
**Participants are required to wear close-toed shoes, and if it's warm, a sun hat is a good idea.
